The Urantia Book is a spiritual and philosophical book that discusses God, science, religion, history, philosophy, and destiny.[1] Sometimes it is referred to as The Urantia Papers, the Fifth Epochal Revelation, or by the abbreviation of its title. The book originated in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. sometime between 1924 and 1955, but its authorship is considered to be a mystery.

The authors of The Urantia Book state their intent is to "present enlarged concepts and advanced truth" in an "endeavor to expand cosmic consciousness and enhance spiritual perception". Among many other topics, it expands on the origin and meaning of life, describes humankind's place in the universe, discusses the relationship between God and people, and presents a detailed biography of Jesus. The book is 2,097 pages long, and consists of a Foreword and 196 papers, divided into four parts.

The Urantia Book introduces the word Urantia as the name of the planet Earth. "Urantian" is a derivation used to denote anyone or anything that originates on Earth. Colloquially, the word "Urantian" is sometimes used to denote an individual who admires and believes in the book, but this meaning is not found in the book itself.

The Urantia Foundation first published The Urantia Book in 1955 in English. Translations into numerous languages are available with several new translations in process. In 2001, Urantia Foundation lost the U.S. copyright to the English version in a court decision and it went into the public domain,[2] and in 2006, the international copyright on the English text expired.[3] Complete, searchable editions of The Urantia Book are available on the Internet, as well as free audio versions.

Sebut saja namaku Jie.. dan aku masih ingat ketika seorang ibu mendandaniku sehingga tampak sangat cantik sekali. Kisah sedihku ini dimulai ketika seorang dengan wajah seram datang ke tempatku dengan mulut bau minuman, dan dengan suara serak meminta dengan paksa supaya aku ikut dengannya. Kulihat dia menyelipkan uang ke tangan ibu yang menjagaku sambil menyeringai memperlihatkan deretan gigi yang hitam menjijikkan. Tapi apa dayaku sehingga akupun terpaksa ikut dengannya meski entah apa yang terjadi pada diriku ini. Aku memang lemah dan tak punya kekuatan untuk menolaknya
Dibawanya aku pergi sehingga tak seberapa lama kudengar dari kejauhan suara cekikikan wanita-wanita. Semakin dekat dengan tempat itu, aku melihat ada orang laki-laki ditemani wanita-wanitanya sambil minum-minum. Ahhh minuman keras lagi..?
Orang yang membawaku masuk dalam kumpulan orang-orang itu ternyata adalah temannya, sambil memandangi diri! ku dengan penuh nafsu dan kelihatannya aku mau dimakan hidup-hidup. Tiba-tiba tangannya menyentuh diriku. Merabaku sehingga tak ada lagi di seluruh tubuhku yang tidak dijamahnya. Aku tak bisa berkata apa-apa. Dan sekali lagi aku memang lemah dan tak punya kekuatan tuk menolak tingkah laku orang ini. Melihat apa yang dilakukannya pada diriku, keempat temannya ternyata tidak tinggal diam. Sambil teriak-teriak, "Bagi donk, bagi donk..!!!" Aku pun mengalami perlakuan yang paling menyedihkan, yang akhirnya secara bergiliran mereka pun menjamahku dari ujung ke ujung dengan penuh kepuasan dan bukan itu saja yang mereka lakukan. Tapi tetap saja aku tidak berontak karena aku lemah dan tak punya kekuatan untuk menolaknya. Aku begitu lemah, sehingga perlakuan keji mendatangiku berkali-kali hanya demi sebuah kepuasaan sesaat, dan hanya aku biarkan saja. Dan itu pun masih terjadi sampai saat ini.
Note: pada saat orang itu memaksaku pergi, dia memanggil nama lengkapku, Djie Sam Soe isi 12 batang.
(peringatan: denda 50 juta kalo merokok di tempat umum lho...)

Yaitu bercerita tentang kekhawatiran seorang ibu single parent dengan tiga orang anaknya. Filmnya cukup ringan, alur cerita dikemas senatural mungkin, bahkan sesekali penonton sengaja di libatkan dalam film ini dengan menghadirkan sentuhan cerita yang memang sering terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Nampaknya sutradara Michael Lehmann mampu menghidupkan film ini dengan baik. Beberapa adegan konyol yang muncul dalam film ini mampu membuat penonton tertawa. Namun sutradara masih tetap memberikan sentuhan hati serta pesan tersirat bagaimana seharusnya orangtua memperlakukan anak-anaknya saat mereka beranjak dewasa. Kecintaan orangtua terhadap anak jangalah dijadikan pembenaran bagi oranngtua untuk mengatur kehidupan sang anak. Karena anak pasti punya ruang sendiri untuk menentukan pilihan hidupnya. Adalah Daphne Wilde (Diane Keaton), dia adalah ibu yang sangat sayang dan selalu mengkhawatirkan hidup ketiga anak-anaknya Maggie (Lauren Graham), Mae (Piper Perabo) dan Milly (Mandy Moore). Ketiga anaknya ini terbilang sukses dalam urusan pekerjaanya dan itulah yang cukup membanggakan Daphne. Namun sebagai ibu tentulah resah jika ada salah satu anaknya selalu mengalami kegagalan setiap menjalin hubungan dengan pasangannya. Dan itulah yang dialami oleh Milly. Rasa khawatir Daphne sebagai orangtua ini ternyata sangat berlebihan, sehingga ia memutuskan untuk melakukan pencarian seorang pendamping yang dianggap cocok untuk anaknya. Tanpa sepengetahuan Milly ibunya memasang iklan online untuk mencari pria yang pantas untuk jadi pasangan hidup anaknya. Acara 'seleksi menantu' inipun dilakukan oleh Daphne di sebuah restoran yang cukup nyaman. Ada beberapa pria yang telah di wawancara, dan Daphne akhirnya menentukan Jason (Tom Everett scott) seorang arsitek yang dianggap pantas untuk menjadi kekasih anaknya. Pada saat proses pemilihan tersebut, datanglah Johnny (Gabriel Macht) salah seorang pemain musik direstoran tersebut yang diam-diam telah mengamati apa yang dilakukan Daphne. Ia pun tertarik dengan ucapan Daphne bahwa ia mencari pasangan hidup buat anaknya. Meski Daphne menolak tawaran Johnny agar bisa ikut dalam 'bursa pilih menantu' ini, namun Johnny tetap melancarkan aksinya untuk menemui Milly dengan bekal kartu nama yang sengaja ia 'curi' saat Johnny berbicara santai dengan Daphne. Seiring berjalannya waktu, rencana sang Daphne berjalan mulus. Namun diluar perhitungan ternyata Milly malah berkencan dengan dua orang pria sekaligus. Sampai pada akhirnya Milly dihadapkan pada kenyataan bahwa ia sebenarnya menyukai Johnny si seniman musik ketimbang Jason sang arsitek yang baginya sangat membosankan. Masalah semakin bertambah saat Milly mengetahui bahwa ibunya yang telah merencanakan perjodohannya dengan Jason. Konflik orangtua anakpun terjadi, namun sang sutradara tetap memunculkan karakter seorang ibu yang baik, dimana ibu akan merasakan kesedihan yang dalam jika melihat anaknya dirundung duka. Dalam film ini sutradara juga ingin menyampaikan pesan bahwa seberat apapun permasalahan yang dihadapi sebuah keluarga, akan bisa teratasi dengan baik jika rasa cinta untuk saling menyayangi selalu ditumbuhkan dalam hati. Pengemasan cerita ini memang cukup menarik, apalagi disepanjang cerita ini, sesekali diselipkan beberapa adegan yang cukup lucu. Bahkan beberapa lagu sengaja dihadirkan untuk mendukung beberapa adegan yang muncul dalam film ini. Terkesan sekali bahwa film drama keluarga ini sengaja dikemas serileks mungkin oleh sang sutradara sehingga film ini benar-benar menjadi film yang menghibur bagi keluarga. (ida)
