Memoirs Of Geisha

By; Arthur Golden

Review:

This book is amazing. I was a little skeptical going in, especially because it is written by an american man of all people. But I could not put it down! You are immediately sympathetic to Chiyo, a little girl who's mother is dying. She finds herself in the attention of a man who she believes will adopt her when her mother dies- but instead he convinces her father to sell her and her sister to an Okiya, where they are separated for the rest of their lives. From that point on, the book tells the story of how she becomes a geisha, and the heartbreak that she endures even when she attains the goals she set for herself. Very well written, with fabulous attention to detail and characters that really capture your attention.
